Botox and Dysport in Ottawa: How to Look Rested, Not Frozen
Considering Botox or Dysport in Ottawa? Learn how neuromodulators work, what a natural result looks like, and how to book a private consult in Kanata.
People searching for Botox Ottawa or Dysport Ottawa often want the same thing. They would like forehead lines, frown lines, or crow’s feet to look softer. They do not want friends asking what they “had done.”
That is a fair request. At Kanata Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, we treat neuromodulators as a planning tool, not a one size fits all injection. The goal is a face that still moves. You should still look like yourself on a good day.
What Botox and Dysport actually do
Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Nuceiva are all neuromodulators. They temporarily ease the muscle activity that creases the skin when you raise your brows, squint, or frown. Our cosmetic Botox page explains the mechanism in more detail. In short, the product does not fill a wrinkle. It turns down the motion that keeps etching that wrinkle in.
That is why results are gradual. Many patients notice a change in a few days. The look usually settles over one to two weeks. Effects commonly last about three to four months, sometimes a little longer, depending on the area, the dose, and how quickly your body metabolizes the product. Results vary.
We keep Botox and Dysport in clinic, along with Xeomin and Nuceiva. “Botox” is the name most people use. Our cosmetic nurse injectors choose the product that fits your anatomy and your history with treatment. If one brand has suited you before, we listen to that.
Where treatment helps, and where it does not
The classic areas remain the most requested in Ottawa, Kanata, Stittsville, and Nepean:
- Horizontal forehead lines
- The “11s” between the brows
- Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes
Neuromodulators can also be used with a light hand for a lip flip, to soften a chin that dimples when you speak, or to ease strong masseter muscles when jaw clenching is part of the picture. Some patients ask about neck bands. Small, targeted doses can soften muscle pull. Looser skin and deeper neck aging are a different conversation. In our practice, surgical neck work is planned with a facelift, not as a separate promise.
What neuromodulators cannot do is restore volume. Hollow cheeks, thin lips that need shape, or folds caused by lost support belong with dermal fillers or, when the time is right, surgery. Mixing the two is common. Mixing them without a plan is how faces start to look busy.

What “natural” means in a consult
A natural result is not the smallest possible dose every time. It is the dose that matches how your face moves.
During a private consultation we look at you at rest and in expression. We ask which lines bother you in photos versus which lines you barely notice. We also ask about brow position, dry eyes, previous treatments, and medicines that can increase bruising.
“Baby Botox” can be a good starting point if you have never been treated. It is not automatically better. Under-treating a strong frown can leave the 11s in place and send you home disappointed. Over-treating the forehead can drop the brows and make the upper lids feel heavy. Placement matters as much as unit count.
You will leave with a clear plan and a cost based on the areas discussed. On our Botox page, sessions are listed in a broad range of about $300 to $1,000 because unit needs differ. A lip flip uses far fewer units than a full upper face. We quote before we treat. No pressure to add areas you did not come in for.
What the appointment feels like
Treatment itself is brief, often around 30 minutes including review and marking. Injections are done in the aesthetics suite at 895 March Road. It is a private clinic setting, not a hospital waiting room.
Afterward, most people go back to work. Expect small marks that settle. We usually ask you not to lie flat, bend hard, or work out for the rest of that day, and to be gentle with the skin. Makeup can wait a few hours. Daily medical-grade sunscreen is worth keeping in the routine, especially if you also have peels, lasers, or microneedling on your calendar.
Mild bruising, redness, or a short-lived headache can happen. Drooping of a brow or lid is uncommon when dosing is conservative, and it is one reason we prefer an unhurried map of your muscles over a rushed special.
Why have this done in a plastic surgery clinic
Kanata Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery was founded in 2005 by Dr. James Lacey, MD, CM, FRCSC. He is a Royal College-certified plastic surgeon with more than 20 years of work in the Ottawa area. Injectables here sit beside surgical judgement. If Botox will not give you the lift you have in mind, we would rather say so and talk about skin quality, fillers, or a future facelift than sell a frozen forehead.
Patients often mention Colleen and the nursing team as the reason they felt heard. That matters. A good neuromodulator visit is mostly listening, then a few precise injections.
