Are Wrinkles, Scars or Uneven Skin Tone Holding You Back?

Are you worried about wrinkles, fine lines, or stubborn scars? Or tired of dull, uneven skin tone, texture or hyperpigmentation? These visible signs of aging can leave you feeling self-conscious and frustrated.

You need a more youthful appearance but may be wary of invasive procedures — which can sometimes cause significant downtime and side effects.

Enter Microneedling. At Kanata Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, we offer this innovative treatment that stimulates your skin’s natural healing process, promoting collagen production for a smoother, younger-looking you.

About the Procedure

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves the use of a device with very fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These tiny punctures trigger the body’s natural healing process. This promotes the production of collagen and elastin. It results in improved skin texture, reduced scars and wrinkles, and overall skin rejuvenation.

The needles of the microneedling device can be of different depths. The treatment can be adjusted to target your specific skin concerns and desired results.

Why Choose This Treatment

Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling offers several benefits that make it a popular choice for those seeking skin rejuvenation:

100% Natural Process

Uses your body’s natural healing process to enhance skin appearance without the need for injectables or invasive surgery.

Minimal Downtime

Compared to more invasive procedures, microneedling typically involves minimal downtime, getting you back to your routine quickly.

Versatile Treatment

Microneedling can address a wide range of skin concerns, including fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation.

Firmer, Thicker Skin

The procedure helps achieve thicker, tighter skin by using your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin.

Enhanced Product Absorption

Microneedling creates micro-channels that boost the absorption of skincare products and maximize their effectiveness.

Refined Pores

Microneedling helps shrink enlarged pores for a smoother and more refined appearance overall.

Hands

Rejuvenate the skin and reduce the appearance of pigmentation and wrinkles on the hands.

Under the Eyes

Tightens skin so eyes appear brighter and mitigates the look of under-eye puffiness and bags.

Stretch Marks

Fades stretch marks by triggering new collagen on the abdomen, thighs, hips, and buttocks.

Before Your Appointment

Microneedling Pre-Procedure Preparation

To take the first step, schedule a consultation with our experienced cosmetic professionals. During this consultation, you can discuss your skin concerns, ask questions, and learn more about the procedure. Our medical aestheticians will assess your skin and medical history to determine if you’re a good candidate for microneedling.

You will be asked to avoid and be checked for certain things before the procedure can take place:

On Treatment Day

Treatment Day Advice

Microneedling offers a range of both physical and emotional benefits.

Please come to the office without make-up, creams, gels, or lotions on treatment areas.

We will have you wash your face when you arrive at the practice.

A topical anesthetic will be applied to your skin, and you will numb for 30–60 minutes before treatment begins.

Step by Step

The Microneedling Procedure

First of all, our medical aesthetician at Kanata Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery will cleanse your skin to minimize any risk of infection. Following the cleansing, a topical anesthetic numbs the treatment area.

Once the numbing agent takes effect, the healthcare provider will use a handheld device with fine needles called Skin Pen to create controlled micro-injuries in your skin. A solution like hyaluronic acid might be used during this step to further enhance the process.

The entire procedure is relatively quick, typically taking 30–45 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Once the microneedling is complete, a soothing solution may be applied to minimize any discomfort. Completing with application of sunscreen.

After the microneedling session, it’s normal for your skin to appear slightly red and feel sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn — as well as rough in texture and dry during the healing process. These effects typically subside within a few days. As your skin heals from the micro-injuries, it naturally produces more collagen and elastin.

Session Duration: 30–45 minutes | Downtime: Minimal | Results: Progressive over weeks

After Your Session

Microneedling Post-Procedure

What to Expect

When you leave your appointment, your skin may be flushed or bright red, resembling a mild to moderate sunburn. This redness typically fades within 48 hours and swelling may also occur and last up to 48 hours. Flaking and skin peeling are all considered to be common side effects after the procedure.

Other side effects, such as bruising, bumps, breakouts, and dry skin, may occur after microneedling, but not everyone will experience them. The healing process continues under the surface of your skin for up to two months.

Skin Care During Recovery

To minimize side effects, take care of your skin with moisturizers and gentle cleansers. Fortunately, the downtime after microneedling is relatively short compared to some other cosmetic procedures.

Microneedling Aftercare Tips

Microneedling is a fantastic treatment for achieving smoother, more youthful-looking skin. However, just like any treatment, aftercare plays a crucial role in maximizing your results and ensuring a smooth recovery. Here are the essential do’s and don’ts:

Things to Avoid

Things to Do

Who Qualifies

Who Should Avoid Microneedling?

Microneedling isn’t for everyone. Here are some cases where it’s best to avoid:

Active skin infections or inflammatory conditions

Uncontrolled diabetes or blood disorders

Hemophilia, blood clotting issues, or on anticoagulants like aspirin, heparin, or warfarin

Pregnancy or breastfeeding

History of poor wound healing or keloid scarring

Active acne or skin infections in the treatment area

Used isotretinoin (Accutane) within the past 6–12 months

Undergone radiation therapy within the past year

Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea (consult a dermatologist)

Open wounds, cuts, or sunburn in the treatment area

History of skin cancer or currently undergoing cancer treatment

Weakened immune system or on immunosuppressive medications

Systemic infections such as Hepatitis or HIV

Allergy to ingredients used — topical anesthetic, stainless steel, hyaluronic acid, moisturizers, or sunscreen

Safety Information

Microneedling Risks and Complications

Everyone’s skin is unique. The results of microneedling can vary depending on your specific skin type, condition, and how your skin reacts to the treatment.

Infection Risk

Microneedling creates small holes in the skin, which could potentially allow germs to enter if proper post-treatment care isn’t followed. However, the risk is minimal if you’re healthy and careful.

Hypo / Hyperpigmentation

Microneedling can pose a risk for hypo- or hyperpigmentation, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones. Hyperpigmentation may occur if the skin responds by overproducing melanin, while hypopigmentation could result from reduced pigment production. Consult your medical aesthetician if you are at high risk.

Permanent Scarring (Rare)

In rare cases, overly aggressive microneedling or incorrect needle depth can lead to permanent scarring, especially if a client has a history of keloids or hypertrophic scars.

Prolonged Redness & Swelling

While redness and swelling are common, prolonged symptoms may indicate an inflammatory response or reaction to aftercare products. To reduce risks, follow strict sanitation protocols and post-care guidelines including sun protection and gentle skincare.
